PROPOSAL FOR A

MEDIA PLATFORM

Right now, autonomous groups organizing for revolution are divided and dispersed. We have neither a Party, nor a Central Organization, nor a Federation. Groups come together and fall apart, following the ebb and flow of friendships and conflicts, following the cycles of campaigns and struggles. These groups are galvanized by meetings, riots, parties and love, but they are also eroded by fatigue, depression, inter-personal aggression, and state repression. While there is an incredible strength in this mixture of the political and the personal, we also struggle to organize in the long term. The same problems come up again and again; we hit a wall, and can’t seem to move past it. We wonder how to organize with people with whom we share affinity, while still being open to newcomers? How can we be inclusive when we organize informally? How can we have independent struggles that share a common perspective? How can we transform our everyday lives now, without losing sight of a revolutionary horizon? How can we make our ideas heard outside of our groups?

Instead of trying to outrun these questions – by trying to simplify the multiplicity of groups into a central project or, on the other side, by giving up and staying in the comfort of affinity groups, we propose something different. We propose embracing the heterogeneity and the plurality of the struggles that have intersected over the years, and reflecting on how those struggles figure in theconstellation of autonomous forces. We want to create spaces where different groups can put their subversive strategies and perspectives together, think about the situations at hand, reflect on and deepen their strategies, and produce revolutionary discourse. Our desire to bring these diverse groups together – all of whom are, in different ways, trying to bring about the demise of so-called Québec – is what inspired our proposal for a web platform. We imagine three axes for the project.

Think the present while keeping a revolutionary horizon in mind

We need to find our rythm: make things happen on our schedule, and stop only reacting when things are in crisis. The current rise of the far-Right, populism, and fascism demand that we think about our role in the situation and that we take our revolutionary plans seriously. We need to more deliberately rupture with and betray our allegiances to the colonial society we live in.  We need the space to analyze and think through this rupture, and what it will require. We need to know how to make this rupture last, and how to spread it open. We need to respond appropriately to our time, and adjust our techniques and strategies accordingly. We need to experiment with new ways of seeing, new relationships to the land and territory, and new forms of communication. By producing texts, videos, images photos, and podcasts, we can imagine new tools and languages.

Organize with diversity

People around us tend to organize in chosen mixity rather than in large formal groups, friends are scattered across the country and the world, we are confronted by our diversity in life circumstances and in ways of struggling. Instead of trying to work in vain against these separations, we want to nurture them and make the different parts powerful. The project we’re proposing would make it possible for different groups, projects, and organizations to come together. Groups could contribute on a regularly basis or every once in a while, staying true to how they want to organize, what level of openness they operate with, and the way they want to communciate their ideas and practices. Finally, we want to develop organizational strategies that allow us to be attentive to group dynamics and avoid the centralization of power.

A way to stay in touch and link up

It’s by many groups coming together that long-term force and power will be built. We envision this project as a crossroads where we can share our practices and struggles, and inspire one another, but where we can also name and specify the conflicts that separate us. We want to unite groups across different realities by circulating both ideas and people throughout the territories. To do this, we want to share resources and skills, techniques and practices, with those beyond just our immediate friends. Revolution is impossible without constructing a common, material force. This platform is a concrete step towards creating that force.

We’ve been meeting in small groups of friends to work on this proposition, but the project is still at early stages of development, and others are welcome. The project’s nature and success depend wholly on who gets involved. With that in mind, we invite anyone who would like to participate in this project, or the creation of content for the platform, to send us an email describing their interest:
